The Best Cottagecore Sewing Patterns : Sew Your Dream Wardrobe!

I’ve always dreamed of living in a little cottage in the countryside, so when the cottagecore aesthetic first made its appearance a few years ago I was fully on board! Thankfully this sweet, gentle style is showing no signs of going anywhere, and cottagecore skirts, dresses and jackets are here to stay. 

Of course, making your own handmade items goes hand-in-hand with a cottagecore lifestyle, so it’s no surprise that lots of cottagecore sewing patterns have popped up. I’m here to help you sort the quality patterns from the huge range out there, and show you my favourites from the huge selection out there.

Where possible, I have tried to choose patterns with an inclusive size chart, so that these can be accessible for as many sewists and body types as possible. Most patterns are designed for a B cup, but it's worth checking the details to see whether you would need to do a full bust adjustment.

Silversaga Sewing Patterns

I started off trying to select my favourite Silversaga pattern but it was just too difficult to choose! Silversaga is known for cottagecore dresses, with lots of sweet ruffles, flowing skirts and romantic vibes. This is the place to start if you're looking for cottagecore sewing ideas! The Eleonora Dress pattern is a classic milkmaid dress with it’s a beautiful gathered bodice, while the Ophelia Top & Dress offers big beautiful frills for a more modern cottagecore feel. Silversaga patterns are a little more expensive than some other patterns out there, but they are beautifully designed and, in my opinion, well worth the extra money. 

Madswick Zamora & Raida

Madswick is another sewing pattern designer inspired by cottagecore silhouettes. The beautiful Raida blouse pattern features a statement ruffle yoke that feels very cottage-y, while the Zamora skirt’s sweet pleats make it look like you could wear it to frolic in the fields!

Madswick has a YouTube channel with a video sewalong of the Zamora skirt, so it would also make a great pattern for beginners.

Vivian Shao Chen Orchards Dress

This beautiful pattern is a perfect way to give a nod to cottagecore whilst still looking contemporary. The lovely gathered neckline will be flattering to all sorts of bodies, and there is a sleeve expansion so you can add some cottagecore style puff sleeves. Loose dresses don't always manage to fit the cottagecore style, but this dress pattern manages to feel wonderfully cottagecore whilst still being relaxed and comfortable.

Cayden Naughton Daily Dress

Cayden Naughton is a relatively new pattern designer, but one who has been bringing out pattern after beautiful pattern! The Daily Dress feels like the perfect simple cottagecore dress for wearing every day. From the front it looks like a simple day dress, but the perfect fit and gorgeous corset detail on the back gives it a little cottagecore flare that makes its feel anything but ordinary. I also think this pattern would look amazing with a hacked square neckline, which will give it even more of a cottage-y feel!

Maria Juterud Darcy Skirt

Maria Juterud is known for her beautiful historic costuming on social media, and her digital sewing patterns bring some of that flavour to the home sewist. The Darcy Skirt is designed like a historic petticoat, but with sweet details that make it wearable on its own. This skirt is top of my list to make in the most beautiful flowy fabric!

It’s Sew Becca Forager Pinafore

Any cottagecore outfit wouldn’t be complete without a pinafore, and the Forager Pinafore is the perfect crossover between cottagecore pinafore and practical apron. With its cross-back, tie sides and useful pockets, this an apron you’ll want to wear every day whilst picking apples and baking pies!

Birgitta Helmersson ZW Bell Jacket

Cottagecore sewing has become almost synonymous with the quilted jacket, and the Birgitta Helmersson Bell Jacket is the perfect pattern to make your very own. Not only does this pattern feature a sweet Peter Pan collar that will bring your cottagecore aesthetic to life, but it is also a zero-waste pattern, making it perfect for upcycling quilts and blankets. 

Mood Fabrics Bridgerton Dress (Free!)

If you're looking for a free PDF pattern, then Mood Fabrics Bridgerton Dress is likely to fit the bill. This free pattern is inspired by the period style dresses featured in Bridgerton, and its square neckline and empire line bodice give it just the right amount of historic feel whilst still being wearable today.

Fabrics to use for your Cottagecore Sewing Patterns

Linen, organic cotton and wool are the perfect fabrics if you're going for a cottagecore feel, and I love Merchant & Mills for a wide range of sustainable fabrics in beautiful earthy tones.

Floral prints are the epitome of the cottagecore aesthetic, and one of my favourite places to go for these is Merely Susan on Etsy. These beautiful fabrics are designed by hand and printed onto beautiful quality linen and cotton. The delivery time can be quite lengthy since the fabric is shipped from Poland, but I think it's well worth it for these one-of-a-kind fabrics.
