12 Quick Sewing Projects You’ll Actually Want to Make

Find lovely quick sewing projects with this collection of ideas you’ll actually want to make — perfect for naptime, evenings, and small pockets of creative time.

My dress is covered in milk and snot. I’m stacking the dishwasher with one hand and balancing a suddenly-very-heavy toddler with the other.

I absolutely love being a mum, but my days are full. My mind wanders – sometimes to what we’ll have for tea, sometimes to a task lingering on my to-do list, but more often than not I’m daydreaming about the quiet to come.

When the children are finally asleep, I can whip out the sewing machine and crack on with my projects. Surrounded by fabric, scissors, and, of course, my seam ripper, I’m making the most of the quiet hours to refresh my spirit with some much-needed creativity.

A person wearing headphones is focused on sewing a striped fabric, perhaps hinting at how to make curtains, using a Janome sewing machine. In the background, shelves filled with various sewing materials provide ample inspiration for creations.

In fact, I sew so much in those spare moments that I have quick sewing projects down to a fine art.

When time is precious, though, you want to make something worth making. So while tote bag projects and bookmarks can be fun sewing projects, I prefer ideas that are useful, joyful, or gift-worthy.

That’s why I’ve put together this list of beginner sewing projects you can make in next to no time – projects you’ll actually want to make.

Many of these are free sewing patterns and tutorials too, which is always good news. Let’s go!
